'When in doubt...' Stamp

You know the saying, "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is."? I find that the same concept goes with art thieves.

Yesterday, I get onto dA, and one of the very first things I see is a very beautiful picture. Always suspicious, as there have been many times before that I have stumbled upon a picture in the 'newest' category and found it to be stolen, I decided to check out their account and gallery just to put my mind at ease. Sure enough, I found a picture I had seen online plenty of times before, and I also noticed that all pictures were in different styles, which is common with direct art thieves.

The other day, I was looking up Portal-related pictures, and found a very funny picture. Someone had actually made the potato version of GLaDOS with a real potato. I noticed that it had only a handful of favorites, and faved it myself to show a little support for the user. The next day, I found the same picture on the front page in the 'popular' category. Thrilled for their success, I clicked on it, but was shocked to discover that it was not the same user. Taking screencaps and preparing to put an evidence picture together, I asked the original user if they had given them permission. Turns out they did and it was alright with them. I had been about to cry 'art thief' on something that actually had proper permission, but was stopped just in time.

Just goes to show you: When in doubt, INVESTIGATE IT. You may be shocked at what you discover to be the truth.

Also, it would mean a lot to me if you guys could make their day and show support toward the original picture. C:
